Taking a pre-paid taxi at Mumbai airport is always much cheaper than haggling with the taxis outside or using the meter. I've seen the meter amount go higher than their pricing table allows, so it's obviously rigged.

One tip, at the airport don't get tempted into taking the more expensive pre-paid AC taxis. They are the same 50 year old vehicles with a wheezing, asthmatic AC that does more harm than good. I find it more comfortable to just roll down the windows.

There is a cheaper solution than taking pre-paid taxis: walk to the left when you come out of the gate and get a rickshaw. They don't cheat like the taxis and typically cost less than half as much as the pre-paid taxis.
